It turns out there is a new nifty trick for the Nokia N810 as well as the N800. It comes from Kate Alhola who is Nokia's chief Maemo engineer in a blog entry. The N810 supports USB-OTG which lets you make the N810 into a usb host which lets you use other USB peripherals.
For example, you can hook up your USB thumb drive as well as other devices such as digital cameras, memory card readers, and external hard disks. It's a bit of a challenge to get it working, but it is incredibly useful for people able to pull it off.

This is a great award for Nokia who really deserves to be awarded for creating such an amazing device. It literally does everything in such a small and stylish package. Canada has finally received the Nokia N810. It took awhile for the Canadians to finally be able to purchase the device. While Canadians could have purchased it over in the US, it makes it much more convenient for them. The Nokia N810 isn't a cell phone, but it sure feels like it sometimes. With Skype and Gizmo, I can make phone calls to anyone in the world as long as I have an internet connection. This means I can make some incredibly cheap phone calls to anyone in the entire world. Now this feature caught me totally by surprise. I have a separate GPS system, and it's much bigger than my Nokia N810. However, when I found out the Nokia N810 could be my GPS device, I was stunned. Companies need to realize that people want to be able to add memory to their device on a swappable basis. I sometimes have miniSD cards separated by type. One card I only have music on and the other I only have important files. I've had a lot of personal PC devices such as PDAs and other smart phones. The biggest gripe I had was the screen. Most devices didn't back enough resolution to make any type of web browsing slightly enjoyable. The pictures were blurry and small, and I could definitely couldn't fit entire webpages. One thing I love about my Nokia N810 is that it is incredibly small. This means I can carry my Nokia N810 easily in my pocket and not feel it. This is a great change from the days where you could always tell who had a big cell phone or PDA when their pockets were bulging out. |
